From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Konnichiwa!

Visit from Channel 9 News Presenters

Last week we were fortunate to have Channel 9 News presenters Kate Collins, Brenton Ragless and Chelsea Carey come out to Grange. Kate and Brenton worked with Years 5, 6 and 7 students to learn about how the news is produced and spoke about the careers involved in news production. They also shared their own career pathways to their presenting roles.

Later in the day the weather presenter Chelsea Carey came to the school and presented several live crosses from the Grange Primary School oval. Channel 9 supported us to have activities on the oval with a barbecue and jumping castles. The fundraising team of Grange Primary School parents again did a wonderful job in running the barbecue, as did Grange Primary School parent Jarrah Carr in providing the jumping castles and personnel to manage them. The obstacle run jumping castle was certainly a great attraction. Thanks again to the parent volunteers and to Jarrah for your ongoing support of our school.

Another big thank you to Grange Primary School parent, Sally Stevens who works at Channel 9 and enabled Grange Primary School to be on their visit list.

I am told by the Channel 9 team that this event at Grange Primary School was the most successful and highest attended of any that they have held at other sites. What this shows to me is the power of parents and the school working as a close collaborative and supportive team. It was also a great promotion of our school community.

Thanks again to everyone for making it such a success.

Parent/Teacher/Student interviews

Over the past two weeks we have been conducting parent-teacher interviews and, where appropriate, three way conferences involving the student as well. Using our online booking system made the process much more efficient. There were 733 scheduled interviews which means that we were able to meet with most families. Teachers are following up with the few families that were not scheduled so that they can meet with the family of every student.

If you are yet to schedule a time with your child’s teacher/teachers can you please do so by the end of this term?

Working as a team of parent/teacher/student is such an important part in supporting every student to be the best they can be. A member of the leadership team is always present at the school when an interview is held, so you may have seen us walking around. Teachers have shared back with me how much they value and appreciate this time with parents in sharing progress, successes and next steps for learning of your child.

As you can appreciate, with our aim to meet with the parents of every one of our 759 students it is a big demand on teachers, in making long working days for them. So thank you to our wonderful group of professional and committed classroom teachers and school leaders for all their time and effort in making the partnership with parent, teacher and student such a success.

Regards, Grant
