National Simultaneous Story time

St Mary's participated in National Simultaneous Story time last week. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.  Last year over 1,062,230 participants at over 8,255 locations participated. We would love Australia to exceed that number this year!  The children loved listening to Alpacas with Maracas written and illustrated by Matt Cosgrove.

Premier's Reading Challenge

Congratulations to the children who have already completed the PRC!  It is not too late to collect a checklist from Miss Clare to fill out the books you have read!

To meet the challenge you need to read the following numbers of books:

Prep – Year 2: 30 books (20 or more from the list to be read or experienced with families)

Year 3 – Year 6: 15 books (10 or more from the list)

The challenge finishes at the end of August and you can record all the books you have read or experienced since February.  How easy is that!

Gwennyth's Great Shave

One of our students at St Mary's has taken the brave step to help fight cancer by raising money through Australia's Greatest Shave.  Gwennyth Mccaulay (Grade 4) has cut off her locks to help fight this terrible diesease.  Gwennyth is an inspiration and has written a short piece below:

“I have had 3 grandmas who have had cancer. My gran was a trooper and did not give up she did everything she could do to survived and she did it.The others did not so I have decided to shave my hair and raise money and I really would love for you to help by donating even if it is only 1 dollar it makes a difference to the community and kids and adults who have cancer.” - Gwennyth Mccaulay Grade 4
