OSHC Subcommittee in 2020

Are you among the hundreds of parents and carers who uses our amazing OSHC service at Brunswick North West? Please consider putting your hand up to join the OSHC subcommittee of School Council in 2021. It’s a pretty easy gig for busy parents and a great way to get to know other parents and play a small part in sustaining a service that is integral to the school community. The OSHC subcommittee meets twice a term with OSHC Coordinator Bernadetta Martella to make recommendations, offer guidance, and talk about the great plans that Berna and OSHC educators have to continue keeping our kids happy, relaxed, well-nourished, and intellectually engaged before and after school.

The highlight of serving on the committee this difficult year has been seeing the passion and dedication of the OSHC staff. They have worked to implement new COVID-safe protocols for children who have attended on-site learning during lockdowns and now for all kids using the service. During lockdown, educators took some of the most popular activities online, making YouTube videos for cooking club and Lego competitions and even an online Aboriginal culture incursion, so kids at home could join in. Over the year, the service has built up a “loose parts play” program, where children use a range of objects for whatever projects they dream up. Berna has done an incredible job this year in chasing financial support for the service, and OSHC has ended the year in a good financial situation. Our OSHC fees are among the lowest of the area, and we’re pleased that they will remain unchanged for another year.

We have a few parents who are leaving the committee this year, so please do consider joining the subcommittee for 2021! If you are interested, contact Debra McDougall (0406 798 401; debra.mcdougall@gmail.com) or have a chat to Berna at OSHC.
