Years 8-10 Examinations

Congratulations to our Years 8-10 students for their conduct during their examinations this week. They appear to be well prepared, demonstrating a strong commitment to their academic progress. I am sure they will continue to behave in this manner as they conclude their examinations next week with students having an examination on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The timetable for each year group is available in SEQTA Documents tab. Students will receive feedback on their examinations in the final week of school.

Jesuit Refugee Services - Essay Competition

This year the College initiated an essay competition to coincide with the Jesuit Refugee Service’s National Week of Solidarity for Children in Families Seeking Asylum – the #NoChildLeftBehind campaign. Years 10-12 students were invited to submit an essay on the issues surrounding refugees and asylum seekers and the Catholic Church’s response to these issues.

The essay question, from a syllabus point that could potentially be asked in the WACE exam, was:

“Discuss the nature of one current issue (asylum seekers) generating tension and conflict in society and the response of a religion to this issue”.

Congratulations to the winner, Ella Naismith in Year 11, for her excellent essay. Thank you to all the students who also submitted work for this competition.

Roncalli Service

Students are to be commended for their completion of Roncalli Service in a year where there were less opportunities than usual.  Special thanks to parents for all the effort that goes into assisting with, helping find and assist with these opportunities. Roncalli Service is an important part of the Learning and Pastoral Program at the College.  While students in Years 7 to 9 have now completed their tasks for this year, students in Year 10 have until September 2021 to complete their 30 hours of Roncalli Service. Year 10 students are encouraged to consider possibilities that may arise over the summer holiday break.

Years 7/8 Water Polo

This week our Year 7/8 girls and boys competed in the 2020 Champions League Water Polo Competition. Our girls competed on Wednesday and our boys on Thursday. Both squads were coached by Mr Doug Watson who was incredibly impressed with the talent amongst our students.

Our girls finished up as they overall undefeated champions and our boys were undefeated in all their games apart from the ones against CBC and finished up as the Runner Ups for the day.

Congratulations to all out Years 7 and 8 students on such amazing results and for representing John XXIII College so well both in and out of the pool with their skills and sportsmanship.
