Late this year, I heard from Sr Reba Woodwiss, telling me of the death of one her Matriculation classmates, Toni Nuttall (néeIngram), who died on 27 August. Toni lived in Sydney and her Requiem Mass at the Jesuit Church in Lavender Bay was a lovely tribute to her.
Toni Nuttall attended Kilbreda 1952-1955, completing her senior secondary education from Proficiency (Year 9) to Matriculation (Year 12). Toni was a diligent student achieving excellent results as well as involving herself in many aspects of school life, including being a member of one of Kilbreda’s most successful choirs and belonging to the Children of Mary sodality.
In her Matriculation year, Toni was entrusted with leadership positions as a senior prefect, the Vice-Sports Captain of Lourdes House and leader in the Sodality of Our Lady. She continued to be a member of the College Choir, which took out first place at the Dandenong Festival. Toni represented Kilbreda with her fellow Prefects at the Catholic Life Exhibition held in the Exhibition Building. Her younger sister, Jan, was College Captain in 1963.
“Although our lives took us in many different directions, our bond of friendship was never broken. She gathered with us in 2015 to celebrate 60 years since leaving school. Toni was a faithful friend, loyal to Kilbreda to the end and one of whom Kilbreda can be proud.
May she now rest in the love and peace of our God”. - Reba
