30 Most Influential Victorians

2017 Past Pupil of Distinction, The Honourable Professor Marilyn Warren AC

As a result of the Herald merging with the Sun 30 years ago, the paper ran a series of special features to mark the occasion, and one special feature was the the 30 Most Influential Victorians. While one was a past pupil of Mentone Grammar, Shane Warne, another was our very own former Chief-Justice of the Supreme Court and 2017 Past Pupil of Distinction, Marilyn Warren AC.

The article referred to her starting out in a male-dominated 'sea of men in grey suits' in the 70s and the momentous scene many years later of Marilyn sitting with two female justices, with women counsel before them, in 2015. A couple of current Year 12 students were lucky enough to meet her last year when they accompanied me to Parliament House to hear her deliver the Deakin Oration.

Appointed in 2003, she was responsible for ending the wearing of wigs and introducing technological innovations to the courts.

Known for riding a bike to work rather than using the Supreme Court’s chauffeur service, she is a true role model for the modern Kilbreda girl.
