DEBATING

Debating is in full swing with ASC entering teams in the Year 7&8, 9&10 and 11&12 sections of the Premier's Debating Challenge for 2022.

ASC hosted MacIntyre HS in the 7&8 Competition and was successfully argued against 'That school sport and PE classes should only include team sports' and 'That people should have to use their real name when posting anything online'.

The Years 9 &10 competition is also off to a great start with debates against Inverell HS held at the end of last term. Our teams won one debate and narrowly losing the second debate.

The Years 11&12 team did a wonderful job representing ASC earlier in the year making it through to the fourth round before being defeated.

A massive congratulations to all students involved in the debating competition. The dedication and lively discussions during lunch time meetings have paid off in some great results so far as well as the continuing development of students' logical thinking and public speaking skills.

Congratulations to Oscar Gates & Eden Love who competed at the CHS Gymnastics State carnival in Newcastle. Oscar came 2nd overall and Eden came 7th overall! What an amazing achievement, we are very proud of you both.

Congratulations to the artistic gymnasts, Chloe M, Meya, Alma, Chloe B & Claudia, who competed at the NSW CHS State Carnival, you were amazing to watch!

Congrats to Meya who came 3rd on beam & Chloe B & Meya who tied with an equal 3rd

 on vault.

U15 Boys Basketball Gala Day

Our U15 boys basketball team competed strongly against four other schools at the Tamworth Super Dome on Tuesday 9th August.

A rapid succession of baskets from Farrer in the opening game caught our boys by surprise. We rallied together in the second half to stem the flow of points, putting together a hot streak of our own, with Hugo Fittler scoring all of ASC’s 15 points to 24 from Farrer.

In the following games all 10 of our players grew in confidence, playing an up-tempo style of basketball, while maintaining patient shot selection. The boys were rewarded with strong wins against Guyra and Tamworth High, before a closely contested victory against Oxley High, with Oliver Stubbs and Will Alexander-Tolhurst being the difference in the middle.

Our boys can be congratulated for representing ASC with distinction in the manner in which they played, showing good sportsmanship at all times.

Joseph Forgeard and Matt Mulready, Coaches

Kids Lit Quiz 2022

The Quiz has just commenced. It's been a great day starting with a guided tour of the magnificent NSW State Library.

The final is speed quiz which doesn't favour our team members, but they made quite an impression during the library tour with their knowledge of history and intelligent questions.

Thank you for assistance with getting us to this event.

ASC's 15 Girls Basketball team played 2 games at a Gala Day in Tamworth. They were beaten by Oxley High School in the first game, but in a nail-biting finish against Tamworth High, they were victorious with a winning basket on the full-time bell! Well done to this team for their incredible effort, enthusiasm and skill.
