Hello, from our students and teachers.

News from Grade 4/5- Ms. Lisa Fasham and Ms. Cosima Perley.

MATH

In math we have started working on time.  Students have created an analogue clock face and at each number point, they recorded ALL the ways that time can be said, e.g. at the 30 min mark: half past, 30 mins past the hour, 30 mins till the next hour. 45 min mark: 45 past, quarter to the next hour, 15mins to. Some students even extended their work by showing different ways that you could represent the number— including as division, fractions and equivalent fractions.

Language of time:

second, minute, hour, day, week, month, year, decade, century, millennium

LITERACY

In literacy we are reading and writing information texts. We have studied the structure of newspaper reports and written opening paragraphs, ensuring that they contain the 5 w’s (who, what, when, where and why.) Our class has matched newspaper reports to headings and even written our own eye-catching headings that use alliteration, rhyme and word play.

Can you come up with an interesting newspaper article to suit any of these headings?
