Year 9 LEAP

Write a Book in a Day

The Year 9 students participated in a whole day event where they had to write a book that would be read in hospitals across Victoria to children with cancer. The day ran successfully and the students were on top of their work, self-checking their progress against the timetable set for the day and using a checklist for the items they needed to complete. They all managed to finish by the deadline.

The day began with a robust energy in the room where the students gathered in their teams to break down their given parameters. Each group had their own whiteboard where they could brainstorm and record their ideas. Students took on roles of leadership to guide the group’s discussion and others were really great at supporting their peers. They all listened to each other’s ideas respectfully, adding the ideas they all agreed on to their whiteboard.

They then workshopped their storyline and themes before allocating each team member a chapter to write. The students all paired up to work on their sections together. As they were getting into the editing and publishing stage, the students swapped work within their groups to cross check their writing and give each other feedback.

The overall day was filled with laughter and robust discussion! Well done to the Year 9 students.
