Showcase

In planning for Showcase for this year, there have been several important factors that we have taken into consideration. For example, the last Showcase was 2019. Many children, due to COVID, have not performed in public since then, e.g. Year 3 students were in Prep in 2019. Also, many children are completely unfamiliar with the whole Showcase process. In fact, many families, especially in Prep to Year 2, have never experienced Showcase.

Our aim for Showcase is for all children to have fun and to have a memorable and enjoyable musical experience. Showcase is an important school event, and it is the culmination of the music and instrumental music programs each year. At the same time, we do not want it to be a difficult or stressful event for children, particularly the younger ones.

Therefore, after much staff deliberation, we have decided that for 2022, we will split Showcase into two concerts. There will be a Junior Showcase (Prep and Year 1) and an evening Showcase (Years 2 to 6).

Junior Showcase (Prep and Year 1)

Junior Showcase will be held on Friday 14 October, during the school day e.g. 2.15pm –to 3.30pm plus afternoon tea for parents. This concert will be free of charge to families.

This will allow:

  • Younger children to get an idea of a large school performance.
  • The children to have a more intimate concert and have only their family and friends present.
  • The younger children to have a fun time and not performing at a late-night event.
  • The program to be composed of for example:
    • Prep and Year 1 items
    • A few older groups to highlight what Showcase will involve
    • Our Music Captains participating
  • The event to be held in the School Hall, be free of charge and bookings will be online. More details will follow.

All Prep and Year 1 families will be encouraged to purchase tickets and to attend the Years 2 to 6 Showcase. This will allow them to gain a greater understanding of the scope of the evening Showcase concert and will be beneficial preparation for their future participation in large off -site events.

Showcase (Years 2-6)

Showcase will be conducted in its traditional evening time slot on Friday 21 October at Robert Blackwood Hall at Monash University. Due consideration has been given to feedback from families in previous years and therefore the following changes have been made.

  • Showcase will commence promptly at 6pm.
  • The program will be shorter and expected to finish by 8.30pm.
  • Tickets will go on sale day 1 of Term 4. More details will follow.
  • The Junior Showcase concert is free, to encourage Prep and Year 1 families to purchase tickets to experience and enjoy a large-scale music performance at the evening Showcase.

Due to the new Industrial Agreement for staff, I will need to modify the start of the school day to accommodate the length of the staff workday. Therefore, on 21 October all classes will begin at 11.30am. That will allow children to have a sleep in, where possible, because they will finish the Showcase concert at 8.30pm. The OSHC program will run from 7am until 9am and there will be only limited ability to supervise children from 9am until 11.30am. More details will follow closer to the date.

We believe that this arrangement for 2022, will re-introduce Showcase to our community, provide enjoyment of music for all and create a greater awareness amongst the children of the importance and scale of Showcase.
