YEAR 10-12 NEWS

Term 4

YEAR 10

CSIRO EXCURSION

The excursion introduced students into a career in science and pathways as a research scientist & Animal  care technician.

Students participated in

  • A safety briefing
  • A research talk on Bat Lyssavirus/rabies
  • An animal facility presentation
  • Lab tour

DIGITAL TECH CLASS

During this term students in the year 10 digital technology classes have been using Fusion360 CAD software to model and 3d print race cars. Students used engineering processes to design and construct each component required to build their car.

One of the critical design elements of this project was understanding the gear ratio relationship of top speed verses acceleration. Calculations were applied to estimate each cars theoretical top speed, this was later compared to the cars actual speed over a 15m distance.

This project really challenged students to problem solve and think of creative engineering solutions throughout the design and iteration process of the project.

YEAR 12

YEAR 12 GRADUATION

Thursday 17th of November saw WHC’s class of 2022 graduate during a ceremony at GMHBA Stadium.

All students present dressed for the occasion as they donned graduating gowns and the orange WHC sash and had their photos professionally taken. The culmination of the year, the 47 students crossed the stage to receive their graduation certificates from Fiona Taylor and Alex Rance from the Academy. Each student crossed the stage with a short comment on their future plans. Following this, alumni Alan Clarence passionately spoke of his journey from leaving school to becoming an owner of one of the biggest Allied Health companies in Western Victoria. His over-arching theme being that its never too late to change direction and follow your dreams. (Read more in our Alumni section)

This graduation also was the last for Susan Harrington, whose organization skills and support made this event (and many previous graduations) run both professionally and smoothly.  Also, a special thanks must go to Kaitlyn Sarah and her tireless enthusiasm in organising the event as well. Thanks also to the staff who helped out and attended the event.

Finally, Good Luck to the class of 2022 as they enter the next phase of their lives. It has been a pleasure being the LCL for this group for the past 2 years and I would like to wish them well and may your dreams and hopes for the future come true, not matter what path you choose.
