Whitehouse Institute of Design | Illustration and Portfolio Workshop

This online workshop is for aspiring designers and recommended as a starting point for those wishing to develop their illustration skills and create a portfolio for application to the Bachelor of Design program. In this 2-hour workshop, you will gain an understanding of how to illustrate with Marker and Paper, experiment with different multi-media materials and learn techniques for presenting your creative ideas.

This workshop focuses on the following areas of skill development including:

  • Illustration techniques
  • Application of pencils, professional markers and felt-tip pens for professional rendering
  • Brief analysis of trends and preparation of illustrations to compliment a Mood Board
  • Exploring an individual design aesthetic
  • Beginners portfolio development and learn how to present your work for application to the Bachelor of Design program.

University of Melbourne | E-meet a Biomedical Scientist 2022

What better way to celebrate National Science Week than by connecting budding high school students with University of Melbourne Biomedical Scientists, who work at the centre of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest biomedical precinct!

During 20- to 30-minute video calls, our experts – many of whom are global leaders in their research field – will inspire the next generation of Biomedical Scientists.

Students in Years 9–12 from across metropolitan, regional and rural schools are invited to ask questions about:

  • What it’s like to make a major scientific discovery?
  • How it feels to change the course of a person’s health – and life?
  • Which career pathways are best for young Biomedical Scientists?
  • What are the latest technologies available in modern-day, cutting-edge science laboratories?
  • And much more.

The School of Biomedical Sciences will “match-make” our experts with participating schools prior to National Science Week so that meetings can take place between Monday 15 – Friday 19 August.

Elegant Literature’s Monthly Contest For New Writers

Each month Elegant Literature hold a contest based on a short fiction prompt. You write a wonderful story and enter the contest. Elegant Literature choose the winner who receives the grand prize. They also choose the best stories, pay the authors above-professional rates, and publish them in our magazine.

Elegant Literature are the first magazine to pay professional rates and only accept submissions from new writers. We don’t allow pros to submit, so your work has a better chance to be selected.
