Arts Project Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre

Students from both the Cranbourne and Clyde North Campuses had the opportunity to be involved in a graffiti art project on Monday 25th July run by the Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre. The students will have their work showcased permanently on one of the four walls decorated. They were mentored by professional graffiti artist Chris McGreggor who has travelled across many parts of the world painting with other local graffiti artist both professionally and for community engagement purposes. The students involved from CLN include Angela Drakopoulos, Ayra Dy, Zealandia Schwalger, Clarissa Tausa, Khrisha Vadadia, and from Cranbourne Anne Jackson, Jovini Pallada, Caitlin Pestano, Armaandeep Singh and Scarlett Smith.

The students had great day and when asked about what they enjoyed most responded with following comments.

‘I liked doing something for my community.’

‘I liked working with older students from my school that I didn’t know.’

‘I enjoyed completing a fun painting project with a team out of the school.’

‘Connecting people through fun, artistic expression was truly amazing and the highlight of the day. Being a young person and an artist, it's inspirational pointing out what we've done in the local community.’

The work is upstairs at the Kmart entrance to the shopping centre, next time you are in there check out the work. Many thanks to Jenny Phillips who is the Community Connector at Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre for coordinating the project. The students have also been invited to attend a celebration breakfast in August.

“Annual Science Week”

Week 6 of this term In August Australia celebrates Science Week for 2022! The annual theme this year is “Glass: More Than Meets The Eye”. It is based on the UN International Year of Glass. It will celebrate the many roles that glass plays in our lives – from phone screens to optical fibre to glassware in labs – plus investigating glass as a part of our sustainable future. Some of our events include a possible rocket launch, glass blowing, our Annual Chemistry Show returns, and dozens of hands-on activities most days of the week.Stay tuned everyone!

"From the College Archives"

From the point of view of recording St. Peter’s College historical information, The Rock is invaluable. For instance, The Rock of 2007, i.e., fifteen years ago records show that three Under 15 students received championship medals in one or several of the St. Peter’s College carnivals. They were Kelly Bowen, Luke Parker, and Daniel Green. Each of these alumni has gone on to make a mark in their chosen areas.

Kelly Bowen is a talented basketballer. She played College Basketball in the United States for Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington. She received several MVP awards and had a professional career in Australia. She represented Australia at International Level.

Luke Parker won his Under 15 medal for swimming. After leaving St. Peter’s College, the Sydney Swans drafted him. Currently, he is the co-captain of the team. He has received Brownlow Medal votes and is an AFL Premiership player.

Daniel Green was a champion sprinter as a student. He chose a different path to Kelly and Luke and studied teaching. Currently, he is a staff member at Clyde North Campus with responsibility for the Year 9 Program, and is also the acting Learning and Pedagogical Coach.

The last From the Archives spoke about the importance of history and tradition in contributing to the ethos of an educational institution. The achievements of college alumni are an important part of the continuing contribution to the history of St. Peter’s College.

From the Archives looks forward to sharing the stories of other alumni in future editions of the Newsletter.
