Dear Parents,

School Athletics Day

What a wonderful day we had today. Congratulations to Bunurong House and all athletes for the skills and sportsmanship displayed. Thank you to Jacqui Hayes for organising the day and to the many parent volunteers and staff who assisted her.

Professional Learning

We were very fortunate to have Debra Vietri facilitate a professional learning day on Friday 12 August. Inquiry approach is a way of learning and teaching. Students are actively involved in  investigations and it is

driven by questions, the quest to seek answers

and make meaning. Learners build on prior knowledge to construct new or deeper understandings. It integrates knowledge, skills and capabilities of the curriculum in a seamless way. Staff explored the characteristics of an inquiry approach to learning, student agency, inquiry processes and teaching and planning strategies.

MACSSIS Surveys

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS) are conducted annually for schools in the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne. As part of compliance with regulatory guidelines, schools are expected to engage with, and gather feedback from their communities as part of their school improvement cycle. This year’s MACSSIS will be open from Monday 29 August to Friday 16 September 2022.

MACSSIS produces perception data. This data tells us about what different people in a school community think and feel about their learning environment and assists us in increasing our school's effectiveness.  All staff, students in Year 4 - 6 and 50 randomly selected families will be asked to complete the surveys.  Letters of consent will be sent home later this week.

First Communion

Congratulations to Kye who received his First Communion at our whole school Feast of

Assumption mass last week.

St Macartan's Visit

Jenny Todd accompanied our School Captains Billy and Scarlett to St Macartan's in Mornington last Friday to share with other students, from peninsula primary schools, our fundraising efforts for flood relief for St Joseph's Woodburn, NSW.

Science Week

At St Joseph’s, Science learning and teaching aims to develop the scientific knowledge, skills and dispositions needed for successful lifelong learners, who can make informed decisions about local, national and global issues. We are so proud of all that we achieve in this most important area. Last week was National Science week. Thank you to Ryan Robinson, our science teacher, for planning special activities with the students to celebrate the week. National Science Week provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Australian scientists to the world of knowledge. It also aims to encourage an interest in science pursuits among the general public, and to encourage younger people to be fascinated by the world we live in. Please check out the video Ryan created of Science Week on the Science page of this newsletter.
