Year 9 Humanities

Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance

In the last week of Term 3, four Year 9 Humanities classes attended a field trip to the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance.  The Shrine was built after to commemorate the service of people who contributed to Australia's participation in World War I and later dedicated to those involved in all other subsequent battles.

During the excursion, we learn't many things about the effort of individuals and the conditions at the Battle of Gallipoli.  Many of us were confronted by the hardship and work that these men and women had to endure.  Four students from each group had the chance to dress in the uniforms of soldiers and nurses from different battles.  This was a great way to see what it felt like to be in their shoes.   We all stood around the centre plaque and observed a minute's silence to remember those who fought for our country.

Lest We Forget.
