VCAL - Digital Thumbprint
VCAL: Digital Thumbprint Workshops
Our class had the opportunity to participate in workshops conducted by Optus on the appropriate use of digital technologies. Our presenter, Dom Phelan asked students to consider the idea that ‘Every time you interact online, you impact’.
He encouraged students to:
· Think about how they might feel if they received the comment they were about to make
· Consider what might happen if everyone could see the picture they were about to post
(would they be comfortable if their parents or grandparents saw the image)
· Think careful if someone asked them to send a provocative photo (what could go
wrong?)
· Be careful of social media friend requests from people they don’t know and always
confirm it’s really the person they think it is
· Be aware.. it is now standard practice for potential employers to check the social
media profile of applicants when it comes to assessing their suitability for jobs
. Behave lawfully - for example it is a crime to damage the reputation of another
person online
Our students were encouraged to focus on creating a positive online identity and responsible and safe online users.
