Friday Sport-Year 5 and 6

Last Friday our Year 5 and 6 students finally got to play their first round of Friday Sport. There was extreme excitement as we prepared and boarded the bus! We headed to Our Lady of Lourdes(OLOL) in Prahran for both our Netball and Football matches. The AFL match was played on the oval behind the school and we were very thankful to have some parents come along and help umpire and support the team. I believe it was a terrific game. Unfortunately, the OLOL team was 5 players down due to illness, so some of our wonderful students offered to step in and play on the opposition so they could all get more game time.  No scoring occurs during the Friday Sport rounds.

We had two Netball teams playing both of the OLOL teams. There was some tough competition and great defence in the first round, a huge thank-you to some of the players who stepped up into our defence even though they would not normally play there and did a fabulous job. Our second team had many players who had never even played netball before. They were so good at listening to the coaching from the side lines that by the end they really had a terrific grasp of their position and the game.

Sorry I don’t have any photos as I was too busy umpiring both games of netball! Maybe next time.

The Friday Sport rounds are a great way for our students to get some practice in before the AFL and Netball LP’s which will take place on the 8th and 9th June. Please see separate Operoo’s for those details.

Beachside Cross Country-Friday 3rd June

I was hoping in this week’s newsletter I might be able to bring you some Beachside Cross Country news but alas, the event was postponed due to the inclement weather forecast for Tuesday. All 9 of our competitors will instead compete tomorrow, the 3rd of June.

Good luck to all of those competing.
