WHAT LITERACY LOOKS LIKE AT ST JAMES

Students engage in a wide range of literacy learning experiences, as a whole class, as individuals, with partners and in small groups.

Here are a few photos from the week!

LIBRARY

The junior students have been reading lots of different books for enjoyment during their Library time each week. They are comparing the texts, sharing their opinions and choosing their favourites. Most importantly, they are having lots of fun along the way!

WRITING ANALYSIS & MODERATION

Over the past fortnight teachers have led their students through a number of writing tasks. Students’ writing samples have been collected by teachers and thoroughly analysed using a specific criteria.

Junior teachers examine:

  • text structure
  • sentence structure & grammatical features
  • vocabulary
  • spelling
  • punctuation
  • handwriting / legibility

Middle and Senior teachers examine:

  • audience
  • text structure
  • ideas
  • characters & setting
  • vocabulary
  • cohesion
  • paragraphing
  • sentence structure
  • punctuation
  • spelling

Teachers then engaged in moderation conversations in their teams and across levels to determine marks for reports, but also areas of future learning.

Well done to our teachers for their collaborative efforts in analysing and responding to student learning data.
