Wellbeing

What do you really mean?

Across the school, a trend has begun to emerge in the way our children are speaking to and interacting with each other - in particular, our boys. Phrases such as "geez, don't be such a girl", "stop your crying, you big wuss", "you can't play with that, it's a girl toy/colour/book",  and other similar put-downs are beginning to emerge as our children re-learn to navigate friendships and social circles in their everyday life.

When these comments are used out of anger, frustration or annoyance, they can often be quite flippant and said out of a habit that has been modelled by others around them. So when these comments occur, our students are prompted to reflect on the words and what they're actually saying. "Stop your crying, you big wuss" = Showing emotion is a bad thing and you should be ashamed of that.

The infographic below may help support these conversations at home as well.

Push Up Challenge

Throughout the month of June, a number of our staff are taking part in the Push Up Challenge to raise awareness for mental health and with the option of raising funds for charities that support mental health, such as Lifeline and Movember.
