What an incredible start 7J have had to Term 2! They have really outshone themselves and met the increased expectations as they progress throughout Year 7.
English
This term in English, 7J have continued to explore the constructs of persuasive writing. The lively class have enthusiastically debated many topics, such as 'dogs are better than cats', 'summer is better than winter', and 'East Gippsland does not provide enough entertainment options for teenagers'.
Throughout the past two weeks 7J have participated in four NAPLAN tests and have displayed an incredibly high level of self-regulation and maturity throughout this period.
Maths
In Maths they have been working on perimeter, area and angles where they have created a poster of their name and then calculated the various components for each letter.
Pastoral
7J have covered a large selection of topics this semester in Pastoral class ranging from Sleep and Nutrition, Strengths, Area for Improvement and more recently Gender Stereotypes and Romantic Relationships. 7J have approached all topics with a positive attitude and enjoy the many productive discussions we have in the classroom.
Systems
The students are learning the basics of wiring electronics. This includes resistors, capacitors, LEDs and other electronic components. The students are learning to solder wires together and create circuits. When these circuits are complete, they will create a series of blinking lights, which they will incorporate into their own artwork.
Science
Throughout the beginning of Term 2 Science, 7J have been investigating types of forces, contact and non-contact forces, as well as simple machines. Students investigated forces involved in a crash cart practical lesson and the impact it had on their clay models. They also investigated how levers and other simple machines can impact force and required to complete set tasks.
PE/Health
Students have continued participating in our invasion games unit during PE classes with the focus being on AFL Football and the Fundamental Movement Skill the punt. This will progress into athletics leading to the whole school athletics carnival. In Health classes we are working through a unit of puberty. Students have begun by investigating lifespan stages and the significant stages that in each stage. Students will explore the physical, social, emotional and intellectual changes that occur during puberty and where they can seek help and information if required.
Art
Early in Term 2 students completed their presentation pieces for the art element of texture. The medium they explored with was pastel and the subject matter the Australian bush; specifically Mount Baw Baw. The students selected images where boulders, snow gums and lychen featured. The following are some examples of their beautiful work.

Lastly, last week 7J was also paid a surprise visit by a day old lamb, which the students nurtured and cared for, highlighting the classes caring nature.
