Principal's Message

Hello and welcome to the end of week 4 of the term.

There is a ‘fair bit of pressure’ around at the moment due to the impact of sickness and ‘stinky COVID’ with both staff and students. It is never ideal to have staff absent or students unwell, but we are managing this as well as we can. I must give a huge ‘shout out’ to our Whole School Organisation team, who have just been fabulous at trying to minimise impact.

We have also had two staff within two days impacted by illness that will keep them away from our College for the remainder of the term. We wish them well and a fast recovery.

To support the students/classes all members of the leadership team have stepped up to take on extra classes above and beyond their normal duties. Thank you so much.

NAPLAN is now concluded for all students in Year 7 and 9. I could not be prouder of the way that all the students have given their best. Ultimately we cannot ask for any more than that. A big thanks to Kristin Bury and the Whole School Organisation team and our ICT team, they have all been fabulous with the administration of this 2 week event and everything has run really smoothly – thank you.

I look forward to the student results, so that we can celebrate our successes and identify work still to be done.

We recently received a report on the results from last years work. This comes in two forms:

  • the Annual Report and
  • the Supplementary report

All health factors aside the data shows the following:

  • On average, a student in Year 7 to 10  missed 5 weeks of school in 2021. That is the equivalent to half of a term of teaching and learning. (Yes, I understand that stinky Covid and remote learning will have impacted) but ……... this makes attendance at school, every day possible, even more critical in 2022
  • For Years 11 and 12, the average time missed was 3 weeks (15 days in 2021). We all need to strive for being in class as much as we possibly can

I also need to thank the whole school community for the resilience and patience that they have shown this term and ask that we continue on this thread of working together to ensure that the students have the best possible outcomes.

As always I am happy to chat anytime.

Thanks  😊
