Cubist-inspired still life

In first term, Year 7 students completed a number of still life projects, building their observational skills and understanding of various styles and techniques. In this exercise students took influence from the cubist movement and the artists Juan Gris and Pablo Picasso to create pieces which used a colour palette focusing on the use of primary and complimentary colours and a technique which made them see past and through what was there, like a superhero with X ray vision. They came up with an array of beautiful interpretations of a daily meal.

Positive and negative space in wire sculpture

The year 9 sculpture class has been working on positive and negative spaces shown in wire sculptures. The class began by looking into Alexander Calder's work and then moved towards creating continuous line and blind drawings to help with the planning process of the sculptures. Lastly we created our own wire portraits in 3D form over a number of lessons.
