Volleyball Cup
On Wednesday and Friday last week, 72 students in the Volleyball Development Program arrived at school bright and early to participate in the Victorian One Day Vic Schools Cup. The students had a fantastic time participating in their first volleyball tournament of 2022!
The Year 8 Team demonstrated excellent enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Thank you to our great student coaches, Jack Donegan and Aaron Fuaux for coaching the Year 8 students.
The Year 10 students showcased their grit and determination throughout each and every one of their games. Alicia Chant and Amelia Mensingh, who are Year 12 students at NHS, were fantastic leaders and student coaches throughout the day. Alicia and Amelia coached the Year 10 Girls and Boys, mentored the junior coaches, umpired games, as well as teaching the junior students how to umpire. The Volleyball Development Program is so lucky to have two amazing student leaders like Amelia and Alicia!
The Year 7 students had fantastic energy throughout the course of the day and did a marvellous job cheering on their teammates. The Year 7 Girls team showed excellent potential being a competitive team throughout Division 1 with little experience – well done! Thank you to Julia Rossi Hunt and Chiara Vagnarelli for coaching the Year 7 Girls.
Congratulations to The Year 7 Boys for winning a silver medal in the grand-final match of the day! Well done to Fred Culham and Connor Murray for coaching the Year 7 Boys.
A big thank you to the amazing staff members Pauline Dridan and Craig Price for attending the One Day Vic Schools Cup on Wednesday and Friday.
Keep up the amazing work NHS!

A late venue change saw our Senior Netball girls get the chance to play in the new Narandjeri Stadium, at the Darebin Internation Sports Centre, on Thursday 5th of May. Our team were eager to play their 3 scheduled games, as it was the first time many of them have had the chance to play school netball for 2 years. The team won all games in their division and even took the opportunity to play against staff and students from other schools due a late game cancellation. Their clean sweep continued after a convincing win against Thornbury High School in the final. Everyone is now eagerly awaiting the regional competition and champs later in the year.

Thursday 5th May saw our enthusiastic Year 7 Baseball team head to Mill Park to stake their claim on the regional title. After a limited number of games in the division competition in Term 1, Northcote were up for substantial game time at this event. Excellent on field communication saw the NHS players make light work of their opponents' efforts to cross home plate, managing three outs in under five minutes to move into the final game for top spot. After a valiant effort, Northcote narrowly missed out on representing the region. The group are to be commended for their exceptional sports-personship, which showcased Northcote’s values of humanity and fairness. A stellar effort was made by all team members and we can’t wait to see them back representing NHS in 2023!

This week we had 2 teams compete in tennis at regional levels. Visiting and playing at Boroondara in Bulleen was a treat. Our Year 8 girls battled hard all day winning 30 of their 81 games. They finished third out of 5 teams. Our Year 7 boys easily beat The Australian International Academy (12-4) and Viewbank (22-10). They were unlucky to draw with Mill Park 3 sets all and lose on games 17-18. They finished third out of 8 teams. After picking up and transporting Princes Hill's Year 8 boys team we finished the day having a social game of doubles with them. Sharing the day with them made it an even more enjoyable day. A special thanks to Year 9 students Finbar Kennedy and Jay Ryan who coached, scored and encouraged our younger students.
