VTAC

It’s that time of the year again! Last Monday the 5 th of August, the much anticipated VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admission Centre) applications to tertiary institutions opened, with timely applications through VTAC closing on the 30 th September at 5pm. To support the Year 12’s through this process, an Access Monash volunteer attended the Study Space MAP and presented a highly informative and crucial presentation, the A-V of applying through VTAC, which covered the following topics;

VTAC course application advice

Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS)

Monash Guarantee entry scheme

Supporting documentation

Scholarship applications

Costs of university

Pathway options, including Monash pathways

Deferral (for those considering a gap year or who are unsure about their plans)

Financial matters.

Following the presentation, students were supported in registering for their VTAC accounts. It is also important to note that a fee of $39 is charged to lodge any applications (plus additional fees for auditions). This process may be daunting, so ensure that you take the time to talk to Jackie Woods or Robyn Andrews if you have any queries about applications or your pathway options for tertiary education. And remember to ensure that you have met all of the pre requisites and requirements for any desired courses, and that a backup plan has been carefully made.

Good Luck!

The Captain Forum

The Captain forum is a collection of school captain’s and leaders coming together to address and make a change to challenges faced by youth in the Frankston community. Lead by the Youth Major of Frankston, the team meet every couple of weeks to discuss pressing issues in their school community and work on plans to aid the common issues. Collectively, we have decided that Mental Awareness and support and impact on waste are the issues of top interest as it has effect on not only the students in our community, but all members. We are working on ways to implement education of these issues within the local schools and hopes of creating a visual piece for the city of Frankston connecting the various school cultures.

Wear it Purple Day

The Pride Squad is celebrating Wear it purple day on Friday 30th August. This is not a free dress day. The Pride Squad will be participating in a range of activities throughout the day. They will also be holding a small bake sale in the bbq area at lunchtime on this day.

About Wear it purple

Founded in 2010 in response to global stories of real teenagers, real heartache and their very real responses. In 2010, several young people took their own lives following bullying and harassment resulting from the lack of acceptance of their sexuality or gender identity. Wear it purple was established to show young people across the globe that there was hope, that there were people who did support and accept them, and that they have the right to be proud of who they are.

Exams

EXAMS – Unit 3/4

All students have been given a copy of the exam navigator outlining expectations and timetable for their end of year VCAA exams.

PRACTICE EXAMS for unit 3/4 studies

A reminder that the practice exams are the second week of the term 3 school holidays Mon 30th September to Thursday 3rd October. Most schools conduct exams during the school holidays as it is difficult to timetable 2 to 3 hour exams during the school day. The more opportunities students have to practice under timed conditions, improves results significantly. It is expected that all students will attend these exams, they have been made aware of the date since Headstart last year.

Congratulations Kaitlyn Traynor

Kaitlyn Traynor has been successful in obtaining a week of work experience with the Police Force.  This is the first student to be accepted for a number of years and it has been a long process and perseverance pays off.  Kaitlyn will be spending the week with Melbourne Prosecutions in November.

Year 12 farewell

One of the most poignant farewell traditions of McClelland College continued this year at the Athletics Day, as the school said farewell to its year 12 class of 2019. Though not particularly nice weather, there was an amazing turn out of students who attended the day in order to both

participate in their chosen events, as well as to celebrate their peer’s achievements. To commemorate their final year of tertiary education thus far, all of the students in years 7-11 stood side by side along the length of the athletics track in order to publicly acknowledge our Class of

2019. As well as applauding our senior students, there were many high fives and back slaps to cheer on this amazing cohort of individuals who will be leaving the college for the wider world in only a few month’s time. Once the last of the year 12’s reached the end of the stream of students, this years Athletics Day and the year 12’s last Athletics Day officially came to an end.
