Around The Primary
Dear Parents
It was an absolute pleasure to see Year 3G in action at today’s Assembly. Each student is to be applauded on the energy and enthusiasm they have given to create a special assembly item for us all to enjoy. Special thanks to Ms Allen and Miss Joyce for guiding the students to explore the Book Week theme, ‘Escape to Everywhere’ in such a creative and entertaining way.
I hope you enjoy reading the following updates about the various learning adventures that have happened around the Primary this week. A big thank you to all our wonderful staff for their tireless efforts and provide a variety of opportunities for your children to grow and flourish.
We look forward to seeing many Dads and their children at Mass next Friday 1 September at 7:30am.
Kind regards
Antoinette De Pinto
Head of Primary
SPECIAL REQUEST
Next week we are having photos taken to produce a whole school photo to commemorate our 40 year Anniversary celebrations.
On Monday 28 August, all Year 1-6 children need to wear their school uniform to school. If children have sport on this day they can bring along their sneakers (or they can change into their sports uniform later in the day).
On Tuesday 29 August, all Mini Minors, Primary Singers, Wanju Voices and Primary Band members need to wear their school uniform to school for Music photos. Once again, if children have sport they are welcome to bring along their sneakers (or sports uniform).
On Wednesday 30 August all children need to wear their sports uniform to school as various team photos will be taken for the school magazine.

GARDENING GURUS
Our Garden Club meets every Wednesday at lunch time in Angelo’s Village. Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy our beautiful garden.
We always have fun planting, weeding, checking out the worm farm and harvesting our herbs and vegetables.
Some of our gardeners shared their thoughts about what they most liked about our Gardening Club:
Sophie
‘I like that you can pick the plants and bring them home to eat.’
Isaac
‘My favourite thing to do is planting.’
Grace
‘I like watching things grow!’
Tahj
‘I like getting time in the sun.’
Rose
‘I like picking fresh food!’
This week we planted some rocket, garlic and thyme. We also planted parsley seeds at the beginning of term and now we have loads of fresh tasty parsley ready for picking.
We looking forward to seeing all our gardeners next Wednesday. New members are always welcome.

COUNSELLOR’S CORNER
This week we were delighted to host an URSTRONG workshop for parents and children. URSTRONG is an internationally recognized Social Emotional Wellbeing program, that empowers children with the skills, language and self-confidence to be better friends and develop healthier relationships. Friendship is such an important part of children’s lives and this workshop offered practical useful strategies to help children make this a positive, happy part of their life. Thanks so much to everyone who came along on Tuesday evening. Check out their blog; https://urstrong.com/blog/
On a different note, Michael Grose also has an online course starting today on Parenting Boys. The Parenting Boys course contains 12 videos (between 20-30 minutes in length) each with an accompanying handout and activity covering the 12 most important topics for parenting boys. Every Friday, 4 sessions (with handouts) and at least one bonus video will be released into your online dashboard to facilitate your learning. You can watch one video each day; save them for the weekend or view them at your leisure. They are there for you to access at any time after you enrol. More information is available on his website; https://www.parentingideas.com.au/product/boys/
Below is a link to an article by Michael Grose called “Secrets to managing boys’ behaviour “which may be of interest too.

LIBRARY NEWS
It has been very exciting in the Library this week as we celebrated Book Week. The theme this year is ‘Escape to Everywhere’. The Primary children have been talking about how reading books gives us the chance to escape from our world for a little while and jump into somewhere new! We can learn so much about real and imaginary places from books. We have also been reading some of the books that have been nominated for awards this year by The Children’s Book Council of Australia. There are a great selection of books and the children and staff have been very eager to read them!
We have escaped to somewhere new this week with a magical castle in the middle of our Library! It has been wonderful to see the children’s reactions as they walked in the door for their lesson. The children have also really enjoyed looking at the display showing their teacher’s favourite childhood books. They have been so delighted to see the books and find out what their teachers enjoyed reading as children, for example Ms De Pinto loved ‘Snow White’ and Mr Henderson’s favourite story was ‘Winnie the Pooh’.
We have had two amazing presentations this week. The children in Year 3 to 6 were very excited to meet author and illustrator Josh Langley who introduced us to one of his books “Being You is Enough”. It is an entertaining book with an important message about being yourself, positive thinking and friendship. The children in Kindy to Year 2 watched a magical and entertaining performance of “Becky Buckaroo’s Ooey Gooey Stew” by early childhood storyteller Rebecca Jane Flanagan. The children loved the story and enjoyed singing, dancing and playing bush percussion instruments.
It has been a wonderful week sharing my love for books with everyone! Thank you to the Library Staff, Primary team and Maintenance team for all their wonderful assistance.

JAPANESE EXCURSION
On Wednesday the 23 August, Year 6 Blue visited to the Hyogo Prefecture Centre. Hyogo is a state in Japan and is the sister state of Western Australia. They became sisters in 1981. We completed various activities, such as filling out a questionnaire (by looking through brochures), playing with some Japanese toys after
