ECP Work Experience Programme/Program pracovních stáží
Many congratulations to our seven students who were given coveted placements at Deloitte CZ during the Easter holidays where they worked in the Audit, Tax, Consulting, Law and Financial Services departments as part of the ECP Work Experience Programme.
Gratulujeme našim sedmi studentům, kteří se účastnili praxe ve společnosti Deloitte CZ, kde pracovali v odděleních auditu, daní, poradenství, práva a finančních služeb v rámci programu ECP zaměřeného na pracovní stáže.
Deloitte Internship
The first week of April started off with me rushing to pack my things, realising that in less than ten hours I would be entering through the doors of one of the Big Four auditing firms in the Czech Republic alongside six other students from Year 5. The seven of us were lucky enough to be doing an internship at Deloitte in Karlín, one of the top auditing and financial firms in the country. The whole process was quite competitive with approximately twenty students sending in their CVs and motivational letters. Each and every one of us had the chance to work in a different sector of the firm including audit, consulting, tax, financial advisory, legal advisory or internal services. During our first day at work, we were greeted by Andrea Filipová, the Talent Acquisition Leader at Deloitte, who gave us a warm welcome and introduction to the company. She was kind enough to give us feedback and a few tips on our CVs, so that we could perfect them even further for future job opportunities. Everybody in the firm was unbelievably friendly and helpful, especially when I accidentally took the private elevator reserved only for members of the board and ended up on the other side of the building. Employees even had free access to a gym located on the top floor and to an unlimited supply of coffee and snacks which really showed in everybody’s attitude, as the majority of people are happy when their stomachs are full. As an auditor, I had an amazing experience and was pleasantly surprised since I really did not know what to expect. The four days consisted of running around several meetings from the Prague Castle with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Prague to croissants and tea with Michal Stumpf the Finance and Administration Manager of Inditex, a multinational clothing company operating stores such as Zara, Bershka, Stradivarius, and Pull&Bear. All seven of us were invited to various meetings with Deloitte’s customers, which was an eye-opening experience, as we got to see what goes down during these business gatherings. Other than shadowing the Director of Deloitte, Anna Bezdeková, I spent the rest of my time working on Excel calculating real GDP, organizing spreadsheets, translating financial statements and much more. Overall the whole experience at Deloitte was enriching for all of us, seeing as it widened our skills and knowledge about the department we were working in and gave us a more clear idea about what we would want to do in the future. I think everybody from this year’s Deloitte internship would encourage people to submit an application even if similarly to me, you have no idea as to what the department actually does before applying.

První týden v dubnu začal tím, že jsem si rychle musela sbalit věci, protože jsem si uvědomila, že za méně než deset hodin bych měla stát před vstupními dveřmi jedné ze čtyř největších auditorských firem v České republice spolu s dalšími šesti studenty z 5. ročníku, kteří měli také to štěstí, že mohli absolvovat praxi ve společnosti Deloitte v Karlíně, v jedné z nejlepších auditorských a finančních firem v zemi. Celý proces byl vysoce konkurenční, jelikož přibližně dvacet studentů zaslalo své životopisy a motivační dopisy. Každý z nás měl možnost pracovat v jiném oddělení firmy, včetně auditu, poradenství, daní, finančního poradenství, právního poradenství a interních služeb.
Během našeho prvního pracovního dne nás uvítala Andrea Filipová, která ve společnosti Deloitte působí na pozici Talent Acquisition Leader. Vřele nás přivítala a společnost nám představila. Byla natolik laskavá, že nám poskytla zpětnou vazbu a pár tipů pro naše životopisy, abychom je mohli mít pro budoucí pracovní příležitosti ještě dokonalejší. Všichni ve firmě byli neuvěřitelně přátelští a nápomocní; zvláště když jsem omylem použila výtah vyhrazený pouze pro členy správní rady a skončila na druhé straně budovy. Zaměstnanci mají volný přístup do posilovny, která se nachází v nejvyšším patře, neomezený přístup ke kávě a občerstvení, což se odrazilo na pozitivním postoji všech zaměstnanců, protože většina lidí je spokojená, když mají plné žaludky. V oddělení auditu jsem měla úžasný zážitek a byla jsem příjemně překvapena, protože jsem opravdu netušila, co mám očekávat. Čtyři dny mé praxe zahrnovaly několik schůzek, od Pražského hradu s Římskokatolickou arcidiecézí hlavního města Prahy až po croissanty a čaj s panem Michalem Stumpfem, finančním a správním ředitelem společnosti Inditex, což je nadnárodní oděvní firma provozující obchody, jako je Zara, Bershka, Stradivarius a Pull&Bear. Všech sedm studentů z ECP bylo pozváno na různá setkání s klienty společnosti Deloitte, což bylo okouzlujícím zážitkem, neboť jsme měli možnost vidět, co se během těchto obchodních setkání děje. Kromě sledování práce po boku ředitelky Deloitte v oddělení auditorských služeb, Anny Bezděkové, jsem trávila čas prací s Excelem při výpočtech reálného HDP, prací s tabulkami, překlady účetních závěrek, atd. Celkově byla zkušenost ve společnosti Deloitte obohacující pro nás všechny, praxe rozšířila naše dovednosti a vědomosti o oddělení, ve kterém jsme pracovali, a dala nám jasnější představu o tom, co bychom mohli v budoucnu dělat. Domnívám se, že každý z účastníků letošní praxe ve společnosti Deloitte by povzbudil další studenty, aby si podali žádost a podobnou praxi, i když stejně jaké já možná předem netuší, co dané oddělení vlastně dělá.

Projects in Applied Economics for Talented Students/Projekty v aplikované ekonomii pro talentované studenty
Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education - Economics Institute (CERGE-EI), a joint workplace of Charles University and the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, has launched the third season of the successful programme Projects in Applied Economics for Talented Students. This 12-week programme is designed for high school students who wish to gain a deeper understanding of economics, learn and apply research methodology, and pursue their own research project supervised by experienced academics. A presentation skills workshop is an inherent part of the programme. The programme is supported by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports. In the last year, students from 14 high schools participated in the project (a summary from last year is available here, on our blog, or in a short video where you can listen to ECP students experiences :
Please visit the programme web page for more details. Registration is open until May 31, 2018, approximately 30 students will be admitted. The programme runs from late September to mid-December at CERGE-EI (two hours once per week, in the evening hours) and the working language is English.
CERGE-EI (Centrum pro ekonomický výzkum a doktorské studium - Ekonomický institute), což je společné pracoviště Univerzity Karlovy a Národohospodářského ústavu AV ČR, zahájilo třetí ročník úspěšného programu Projekty v aplikované ekonomii pro talentované studenty. Tento 12-ti týdenní program je určen pro studenty středních škol, kteří chtějí získat hlubší znalosti o ekonomii, učit se, aplikovat metodologii výzkumu a realizovat svůj vlastní výzkumný projekt pod dohledem zkušených akademiků. Workshop o prezentaci dovedností je neodmyslitelnou součástí programu. Program je podporován MŠMT ČR. V loňském roce se na projektu podíleli studenti ze 14 středních škol (shrnutí z loňského roku je k dispozici zde, na našem blogu nebo v krátkém videu, kde si můžete poslechnout i studenty Anglického gymnázia). Podrobnější informace naleznete na webové stránce programu. Přihlásit se můžete do 31. května 2018, přijato bude přibližně 30 studentů. Program probíhá od konce září do poloviny prosince v centru CERGE-EI (dvě hodiny týdně ve večerních hodinách) a pracovním jazykem je angličtina.
