Health and Physical Education @ HOME

Children need to MOVE to learn. Given the new situation students and parents are finding themselves in, it's important that students are not sitting for long periods of time. Sitting for long periods makes it harder for students to pay attention, focus and learn.

As per the Department of Health website, for optimal health benefits, children and young people (aged 5–17 years) should achieve the recommended balance of high levels of physical activity, low levels of sedentary behaviour, and sufficient sleep each day.

In Physical Education classes, students are encouraged to step away from the Chromebook or device, and engage in the activities. We encourage family members to get involved as this can be a great opportunity for family bonding.

There are many free apps that students and parents can download that encourage physical activity. You can also find some great fitness activities on YouTube including yoga, dance, fitness activities and more.

Some Apps include:

basketball – Homecourt

Meditation – Calm & Smiling Mind

Running/fitness – Strava, Nike

Stay safe, stay healthy and stay connected.
