Science News

Prior to remote learning, our Junior Science students were conducting some interesting experiments. See below!

8B Science (SEAL)

As part of our Chemistry studies in Science, we conducted an experiment to observe “The Law of Conservation of Mass”. We started by weighing 100ml of water and an aspirin tablet to find its initial mass and then again after the reaction. We noticed that mass was lost. We repeated this, but this time used a balloon to seal it, hoping to trap any gas from escaping. We observed that less weight was lost with this model. Immediately after we took off the balloon we lit a match and held it over the flask to see what gas was present. Given the flame extinguished, it showed us that carbon dioxide was present.

Year 7 Science

Our Year 7 students have been busy “Predicting, Observing and Explaining” while conducting experiments like “hidden ink” and “Candle in water”.  Alongside this, they are learning about all the various types of equipment and safety rules in the laboratory. They have been practising their “Lab Skills” and are learning to use the Bunsen Burners to heat solids and liquids in a test tube. Well done to our budding scientists.
