2021 Year 7 SEAL Program

2021 SEAL intake

Registrations for the 2021 Year 7 SEAL Program Entrance Test are now open.

Current social distancing rules have seen the testing for the 2021 Year 7 SEAL class switched to remote access.  Students will complete the test online at home on Saturday 16 May; applications close on Monday 11 May. Please continue reading to learn more about the four steps of the SEAL 2021 application process.

Our SEAL Program offers gifted and high-potential students, who are motivated and academically advanced, the opportunity to be involved in a program that enriches their learning experience whilst also enhancing their intellectual potential and development.

Our Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) Program is accredited with The Academy of Accredited SEAL Schools (TAASS).

Students involved in our SEAL Program usually complete Years 7 to 10 in three years, providing an extended range of options, such as additional VCE subjects or VCE Extension or Enhancement Studies, in their final years of schooling. This not only enhances the potential to achieve a greater Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), but also improves the transition to University studies.

The SEAL students amongst the graduating class of 2019 students achieved the following outstanding results:

  • Average ATAR of 93.1
  • 30% of ATAR scores were 95 or above
  • 76% of ATAR scores were 90 or above
  • 87% of ATAR scores were 89 or above
  • Median study score of 35
  • 20% of study scores over 40

The application process has four stages:

  1. Entry test - registration and testing
  2. Submission of forms, reports and NAPLAN results
  3. Application for enrolment in Year 7 2021 at Glen Eira College
  4. Interview

Step 1: Edutest Registration and Testing

Candidates must register to sit the SEAL 2021 entrance test, which is administered by Edutest. Registrations are now open.

Testing for the 2021 Year 7 SEAL class will be conducted remotely. Students will complete the test online at home on Saturday 16 May; applications close on Monday 11 May. A payment of $100 is required as part of this registration.

Participation in the testing does not guarantee a place in the SEAL Program. The results of the testing will be made available to all candidates as early as possible.

Step 2: Submission of Forms

All students are requested to submit the following information (note: under current circumstances we understand providing these details may be more difficult than normal.  Please provide what you can.):

  • Teacher Nomination form; completed by their current teacher.  Click here to download the form.
  • A copy of the their most recent school reports (generally Grade 5, Semester 2)
  • Grade 5 NAPLAN results
  • A copy of a piece of work that demonstrates their skills and interests.

These forms are best emailed to ape@gec.vic.edu.au using the students name and “SEAL 2021” in the subject line.

Step 3: Enrolment Application for Glen Eira College

Candidates must apply to Glen Eira College in the standard way. These forms are distributed by your primary school in Term 2 and must be submitted as part of the normal process for all primary school students.

Step 4: Interview

Candidates may be invited to take part in an online interview with the Assistant Principal, Sub School Leader or Director of Teaching and Learning.  Parents will be contacted by a staff member to arrange an interview time. The majority of interviews will take place throughout June.

The interview will be completed within 15-20 minutes.

Offer

Offers will be made during August, on the same day that all other school offers are made. Candidates who are not initially offered a place in the SEAL class will be added to a wait list, and may be offered a place later in the year if spaces open up.
