Environmental Corner

Even though we are self-isolating at present in our homes there are ways we can still help the environment. Some of the suggestions you might like to do in your home are:
Conserve Energy
This is one that we can practice all year round. Little things like leaving lights on or keeping the television on standby can add up to a cumulatively sizable energy bill for your household. While self-isolating, you are more likely to spend more time at home, meaning the need to conserve energy becomes even more pronounced. So remember to turn off the electronic equipment on stand by and turn off lights not in use.
Spend less time in the shower
It is important to stick to your daily habits during lockdown in order to protect your mental health, and for many people that means starting the morning with a hot shower. In Australia, the average person spends 8 minutes under the showerhead, that’s equivalent to 60 litres of water each time. Try to take shorter showers to reduce the water consumption
Ease up on the central heating
Since you will be staying home all day, it might be tempting to lean on your central heating as we move towards winter but doing so places a demand on fossil fuel companies. Why not wear an extra layer of clothing instead?
