Year 7 Dockers Cup AFL

Year 7 Dockers Cup AFL Carnival
On Tuesday August 1, 45 Year 7 boys and girls participated in the Dockers Cup Carnival at Ferndale Park. The day was organised so that the boys teams played each other once in short 30 minute games and the girls played 40 minute games with two 20 minutes halves. The overall winning teams went on to a Grand Final the following week against other division winners. Along with St Norbert College, there were teams representing Seton Catholic College, Mazenod College, Emmanuel Catholic College and Serpentine-Jarrahdale Grammar.
The boys were enthusiastic all day and had some hard-fought games against much more skillful oppositions. It was great to meet some parents who came down to support the students who were all fantastic ambassadors for the College. Special mentions to Jesse Overmars, Theo Steed and Mason Howie who were excellent all day.
The girls had a lot of enthusiasm and gave every game all they had winning one out of three games. Overall I was very impressed with the skill level of our girls. Neve Adnams and Gabrielle Kininmonth did well in ruck positions throughout the day whilst Melody Mancuveni and Glenda Cornwall fought hard in defensive positions. Our main goal scorers were Teegan Lidster and Louise Hayward. Special mention to Charlotte Brown and Holly Giles who played all over the field in each game.
Overall it was a very enjoyable day for all involved and some special thanks is also extended to the senior students Lennon Butler, Dermott Marovac, Darrell Eustasie and our Practicum Teacher Brendan Lewis who helped on the day with goal and field umpiring and also to Mr Matt Price for organising the day for the Year 7s to have opportunities like these to participate in.
