Oxbridge Mock Interview questions were held at St Norbert College in Week 3 as an opportunity for students to develop the ability to think laterally, and apply their thinking to new ideas and different contexts. There were no right or wrong answers to a question, rather a focus on its originality, and how a person may think. Questions such as ‘Do statues move?’ or ‘Would you rather be a seedless or non-seedless grapefruit?’ are the sort of questions asked at interviews for universities such as Oxford or Cambridge today. We are attempting to develop the minds and thinking skills of our students beyond the mere seclusion within individual pathways. Teachers and students were welcome as spectators.
“It was an exciting and challenging experience. Daunting at first, all participants eventually warmed up to the idea of expressing their ideas in new and innovative ways, leading to a profound and interactive discussion with teachers and the audience.” Sean Spiegl – Year 12
“The Oxbridge mock interview was a very enlightening experience, with questions that forced the participants to think laterally, to think ‘out-side-the-box’. All the questions instigated entire continents of thoughts within the participants’ minds, allowing them to bring all the knowledge they have in every single subject area into the answer of a single question. Overall, I felt it was an extremely thought-inducing process, through which we learnt new ways of thinking about not just questions, but the entire universe.” Jasdeep Jutla – Year 12
