Year 3 Think Deeply & Create!

From Jaimi, Year 3 Team Leader

What if?

You were allowed to learn about anything you wanted.

What if?

You could learn something new that you always wanted to.

Year 3 have embarked on an optional Genius Hour journey at home! The aim is to foster creativity, resilience, and problem solving, and critical thinking, while allowing students to think deeply and create!

'Genius Hour is an inquiry-driven, passion-based classroom strategy designed to excite and engage students through the unrestrained joy of learning. We (and many other Genius Hour teachers) accomplish this by setting aside time in our weekly classroom schedules when students are able to learn about and create whatever they want, unencumbered by teacher control.' https://www.geniushourguide.org/heres-our-short-definition-of-genius-hour/

There are 6 steps in creating a Passion Project:

  1. Passion
  2. Pitch
  3. Plan
  4. Project
  5. Product
  6. Presentation

And there are three rules:

  1. You have to research
  2. You have to create something
  3. You have to present something.

Year 3 is in the brainstorming and planning stages at the moment, and already the teachers have been blown away by the creativity, imagination, and perseverance.
