Year 11
Year 11 Focus Day
On Tuesday 30th July 2019 our Year 11 students engaged in a Focus Day run at the College. Across the day our students attended a ‘Fit2Drive’ Workshop as part of the College Program to help keep our students safe on the roads.
The ‘Fit2Drive’ Workshop covered a range of activities and presentations that increased the student's awareness of the major causes of road trauma and the huge impact road trauma has not only on the victims and their families but on the whole community. The students also looked at strategies they can use to avoid high-risk situations. The students were encouraged to develop personal plans outlining how they will keep themselves and their friend’s safe on the roads.
Thank you to all students who actively engaged in the day and a big thank you to the ‘Fit2Drive’ Facilitators for running the program at our School.
Year 11 Psychology
Year 11 Psychology students are learning about the Nervous System. To give them some ‘hands-on learning”, the class was divided into two groups, a captain: The Nervous System and vice-captains: The Central Nervous System and the Peripheral Nervous System.
Then the race began for the two teams to not just draw the nervous system with its other components (Brain, Spinal Cord, Somatic and Autonomic Nervous System) but to ensure that everyone in their group understood the function of each part in preparation for a mini test the next lesson.
Year 11 Melbourne Camp
In the 3rd week of August, 25 Cobram Secondary College students headed to Melbourne for a 3-day camp. The first stop was Deakin University in Burwood, there the students had an informitive tour. The group got to see most areas of the University and caught up with an ex-student Amelia Williams. The group enjoyed lunch at one of the many eating areas.
They headed back to the bus and had another stop in the city at William Angliss Institute, where the students had a good look at cooking, coffee making and Air Hostess courses that are offered.
Next, they were dropped off at the accommodation, allocated rooms, changed then off to the Night Market. Plenty of options for dinner and a little shopping.
Thursday saw the group take the tram into Federation Square, they were split into 4 groups and given a Scavenger Hunt to do. Then it was lunch and free time.
The evening's activity was 10 pin bowling and arcade games at King-Pin. They were joined by another ex-student Harry Beasley. Dinner in the Food Court and then back to the YHA for the rest of the evening.
Friday morning the group packed up, breakfast and back on the bus to LaTrobe. Another interesting tour, with a couple of ex-students joining us at lunchtime. Then it was back on the bus and home.
All the students enjoyed the trip, obtained some great information regarding Universities in Melbourne and became familiar with Melbourne city.
History
Our Year 11 History students voted on their learning options for their last outcome in Unit 2, showing their student agency in learning. Through blind votes, they have selected the Vietnam War and Terrorism. We have a fascinating journey ahead!
