Year 10 and Advance

Advance Melbourne Camp

The Advance Melbourne Camp was held on August 5th, 6th and 7th.  Students and teachers met the V/Line bus at 6.50am and headed to Melbourne.  On arrival, they made their way to the YHA hostel where they found their rooms, unpacked and got ready for the Amazing Race.

The group was split into groups and they headed off to find as many predetermined places, these were all counted at the end of the day.  These included Parliament House, counting the steps out the front or singing the national anthem under the clocks at Flinders Street Station.  There was plenty of stories regarding their adventures around Melbourne city.

Next, the group walked to Lygon Street where they had dinner then caught a tram to Flinders Street and walked along the Yarra River to Kingpin, a games arcade.  Students had a couple of hours of games and laser-tag.

On Tuesday morning the group headed to Bounce in Glenn Iris, they had a great time there and used a lot of energy on trampolines and a Ninja course.  After that it was back into the city and the students had lunch and free-time.   Students returned to the accommodation where they changed and caught a tram out to St Kilda beach for the sunset.  They walked out along the pier to see the penguins come into shore.  They had dinner and returned to the YHA for bed.

On Wednesday morning it was breakfast, pack and head to Federation Square, then they walked through the Botanical Gardens to the Shire of Remembrance when Mr White gave a personal account of his family and his connection to the Memorial.  A guide gave them a  quick explanation of the building, then it was time for lunch and to return back to Southern Cross station and return to Cobram.  The students had a wonderful experience and will be better off next time they head to Melbourne.

Year 10 Focus Day

On Friday 9th August 2019 a small group of our Year 10 students engaged in a Focus Day run at the College. Across the day students participated in a variety of activities to provide them with education about harm minimisation.

In the morning our students participated in rotation stations covering information on Drugs and Alcohol, Cyber Safety and Police Services and Respectful Relationships.

Sessions were followed by the Program ‘Road Smart’ which was presented by VicRoads. The ‘Road Smart’ Program reinforces the road safety message and gives Year 10 students the tools they need to be safer on the roads.

Featuring:

  • An interactive in-class session
  • eLearning modules for beginners and their supervising drivers
  • A free in-car session, delivered on or off-road

The day finished up with all students working through an activity assessing their current performance in each of their subjects against the ‘learning quadrant’.

Cobram Secondary College would like to thank all external services involved in the day including Victorian Police, GV Health, and VicRoads.

We would like to also thank all the students who participated in the day.

Lightneing Premership

Year 10 Advance Students, as well as Year 8 students, have been excited to help out with the Lightning Premiership held in Cobram in August. Students were umpiring, scoring and helping coach local primary school teams.

Fire-Drill

Advance students were blindfolded and given a task to clear the room safely; the room was a make-believe" smoke-filled room.  They had to make sure they all worked as a team.  Great efforts, everyone.
