Army School of Health Tour
On a chilly August morning a group of students from CSC, together with members of the Cobram RSL witnessed the Army School of Health passing out parade. The Army students graduated from a rigorous 18-month course at the Latchford Barracks, Bonegilla near Albury.
Following the passing out parade, we had a tour of the facility. In the environmental simulation facility, there is a building where it can be made to rain, simulate a helicopter landing, noise, smoke and explosions. Then we learnt about parades in the military. The pace stick belongs to the regimental sergeant major.
As part of their visit, the students toured the Army School of Health. A real hospital ward filled with life-like mannequins so students can learn nursing skills. The mannequins are amazing. They breathe, blink, have tremors, have heart attacks, cry, scream and talk.
Thank you to the RSL for making this experience possible. We appreciate your support.
Fundraising-Working together.
Our students volunteered at the Cobram Swap Meet. The HPV team were fantastic representatives of the college. (HPV-Human Powered Vehicle) Well done.
Guest Speaker-Kingsley Mundey AM
Ruby Sproules is a great example of taking 'Every Opportunity' when she recently attended a speech by Mr Mundey. Mr Mundey is the Chair of the National Vietnam Veterans Museum and his insights were extensive, as he had a range of careers in different industries.
His message for our youth was to take every opportunity, know what you believe and to have confidence in your ability. As a self-made boy from the bush, his story was inspiring.
Thank you for your kind book donation to our library.
Model United Nations Convention
A keen group of students were engaged in a mock United Nations General Assembly, debating the topic 'Asylum Seekers and Refugees: A global humanitarian crisis.' This opportunity provides students with a deeper and authentic experience with the processes of the United Nations. Each team is required to research and develop a deep understanding of their country's stance on the topic and commitment to a range of key, human rights initiatives. Throughout the day, the teams remain in their national character in order to engage in a series of formal and informal debates to help inform a change to the drafted resolution.
Congratulations to our students for their extensive preparation, quick thinking, and debating. #EveryOpportunity
Thank you to La Trobe University and the United Nations Association for providing this opportunity for our rural students.
Cows Create Careers Program
Year 8R Dairy Industry Advocate Visit.
8R had a visit from Simon Billings from Saputo, as part of the Cows Create Careers program. Simon is a Field Officer and acts as a link between Saputo and dairy farmers. His job involves helping farmers improve milk quality and to determine milk prices. He helped us to learn about the dairy industry by talking about the different jobs and how to look after calves.
HPV
Students are currently in training and preparation for the HPV (High Performance Vehicle). It is wonderful to see their efforts.
