Specialists Updates and Celebrations

STEAM

What a journey it has been in STEAM at SMPS over the past 4 years! It has been an absolute pleasure to teach this subject at the school. I have been so impressed with the level of engagement that students from Prep through to Grade 6 have shown in all of their STEAM lessons. It has been a joy to see the progress of the students in each of the 5 areas of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) and in the ways that they have applied the "4 C's" (Create, Collaborate, Communicate and Critical Thinking). These are all very important skills to have as they continue their learning journey. I wish everyone in the SMPS community all the very best for the future!

Mandarin

It has been a very challenging year. Despite this, we were very lucky to celebrate our very first Mandarin Day in Term 2. We absolutely enjoyed the dragon dance, panda show and SMPS choir performance. We also completed the learning with our big smiles and a positive attitude. Over the year, our amazing students showed excellent collaboration, critical thinking and communication skills in our Mandarin lessons. We cannot wait for another exciting year!

Music

There is no doubt this year posed some challenges with being in and out of remote learning. Our SMPS families did an incredible job of adapting to the changes and supporting their children to be at their best during WebEx music lessons. The quality of engagement and work submitted was fantastic.

At school and in the Music Room we worked super hard on developing our skills and understanding of music. Marimba, guitar, djembe, auxiliary percussion and bucket drums have been are instruments of focus across the school. Plenty of fun was had singing and dancing too! 

The highlight for 2021 has to be Rockstar Day. Having the whole school come together to watch classes and our extracurricular ensembles perform was awesome! 

On that note, I am incredibly excited for our End of Year Concerts this week!
