New Staff

Welcoming our new SMPS staff members...

Welcome (Womindjeka) to Our New Staff 2022

It is with great pleasure that we introduce our new teaching staff for 2022. They are wonderful people who will make a fantastic addition to our team. We hope you enjoy getting to know them!

May Ou

Hi/你好! I'm Ms May (she/her) and I'm overjoyed to be joining the SMPS community in 2022 as a classroom teacher! A bit about me: I've been a Melburnian my whole life but am also a proud second-generation Chinese Australian. I speak Mandarin and Cantonese, so if you can too, feel free to come say hi! If that's not within your skillset, lucky for you my English is even better! In my spare time I love dancing, travelling, reading, and painting (watercolour, acrylic, oil, you name it). I am also passionate about helping the community and am currently the president of my local Rotaract club, where we organise events and fundraise for important causes. I have just completed a Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Primary and Secondary Education at Monash University and am very excited to be starting my teaching journey at SMPS. I am looking forward to meeting you all soon and seeing what wonderful things we can all accomplish together!

Yasmin Dall

Hello, SMPS community! My name is Yasmin and I am very much looking forward to joining this exciting and progressive school next year. A little bit about me: I am soon to be a graduate from the University of Melbourne where I have studied my Masters of Teaching (Primary) course. I am half Australian/half Malaysian Chinese and prior to moving to Melbourne over ten years ago I grew up and spent eighteen years in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. During this time, I was lucky enough to embrace the Asian culture where I was able to travel to many South East Asian countries and learn how to speak Malay and basic Mandarin. My hobbies involve many creative activities, such as; ceramics/pottery, painting and furniture restorations! You may also find me spending time gardening on the weekends or finding a new mountain to hike. Next year, I am most looking forward to getting to know everyone in the SMPS community who have already been so welcoming.

James Lucas

I’m James Lucas and I am absolutely thrilled to be teaching at South Melbourne Primary School next year in 2022. I grew up in Camberwell and have been living in Southbank for the past five years or so. I absolutely love the area and am always at the market or a café on the weekend. I love sport of all kinds, reading, coffee, travel and am very passionate about the environment. I studied primary education at Deakin University and have been teaching at St Kilda Primary School this year as a Grade 1 teacher. I am so excited to get to know the whole school community next year and continue to grow as a teacher. Can’t wait for what I'm sure is going to be a terrific 2022!

Charlee Gough

My name is Charlee and I am so excited to be joining the teaching team at South Melbourne next year. This year I have been very fortunate to be a part of SMPS as a tutor and loved working with the students and celebrating their growth.

A little bit about me, I grew up on the Bass Coast and attended school on Phillip Island, (although sadly,  I am not a proficient surfer). Growing up I loved dancing, musical theatre and was a competitive swimmer. I have completed my tertiary studies at Swinburne University of Technology attaining a Bachelor of Education (Primary). I am a very proud mum to my cavoodle puppy Alfie.

I am looking forward to beginning my teaching journey as a part of such a wonderful, welcoming and vibrant school community and building strong relationships with my students and their families. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity, and to become a part of such an amazing teaching team.

Ben Corns

Hello there. My name is Benjamin Robert Maxwell George Corns, but don’t worry, “Ben” will do just fine. I grew up in Balwyn and have spent most of my life in Marvellous Melbourne. After studying child development as part of my psychology degree, I fell into teaching quite naturally and have thoroughly enjoyed the past ten years as a primary school teacher. My hobbies include singing, playing the trumpet, drama and watching just about any sport around the world. I do not have any pets right now. However, babysitting my one- and two-year-old nephew and niece keeps me on my toes most weekends! I am extremely grateful and excited to join the South Melbourne Primary School community because I can see it is a place where student happiness and success is the top priority.

Angus Morton

Hi everyone, my name is Angus and I am so incredibly excited to be a part of the South Melbourne Primary School community next year! I have just finished doing a double degree at Monash University in Primary Education (Honours) and Science, and am very keen to be in the classroom sharing my knowledge with all the students.

Outside of class you can catch me reading a book, playing some video games, or maybe even going for a spear-fish down by the beach! I also love to go for long walks with my dog Bonnie and enjoy going on adventures around Melbourne, so let me know if you know any amazing places to visit around the city! I can't wait until I get to see you all next year and get to be a part of your amazing school.

Phoebe Katos

Hello South Melbourne Primary School community! I could not be more excited to join your fantastic school next year as the Visual Arts teacher. I grew up in Geelong but have always wanted to move up to the big city. I have been living in South Yarra for the last 12 months and teaching at Parktone Primary School. I love to cook, travel and paint. Painting is my favourite style of visual art because even when it doesn’t turn out how you thought, it can end up even better! I am lucky to have always known I’ve wanted to be a teacher and always had a passion for art. I can’t wait to help inspire the students of SMPS to be creative, imaginative and innovative, so we will all learn and grow together.
