Hughie snapped in the act!!

WOW! We have had a great first week back at school. Everyone has been extremely welcoming ensuring that Mrs Brabham, Eva and Mae Northam have settled in nicely. We enjoyed a STEM team building challenge for the fictional scenario that the new shop owners The Northam's had found boxes of spaghetti and marshmallows and they needed to be used. The students were challenged to create a new unique sculpture for the shop to hook passing travelers in and notify them the shop is open using the two random supplies. We learnt that the marshmallows become extremely sticky and after a while begin to deteriorate and some groups ended up with a lot less supplies because the hungry group members just couldn't resist tasting them!

During Maths we have enjoyed practicing our Times Tables paying attention to our recall of the 7s with games, time trials and songs. Students also learnt a new game, RowCo, where they challenge each other to score the highest number having to add their cards as they go and make strategic moves. We are also focusing on reading, writing (words and digits) numbers, ordering, rounding and drawing/making numbers from hundredths to hundreds of thousands.

While reading Roald Dahl's The Witches, we have been recording our 'tracks' and sharing our predictions, questions, wonderings, visualisations and summaries. Students have an independent reading book at school and are encouraged to have one for home reading as well. We have the MARC van visiting us on Fridays between recess and lunchtime.

We shared the stories of our holidays through pictures and recount writing and realised that most of us ended up at the beach at some point. We have been looking at building our word choice with synonyms (different words with a very similar meaning) and adding more detail to improve sentences. Later this term we will be writing to persuade our readers and entertain them with creative narratives.

5/6 students will be joined by the 3/4 students each afternoon to attend Science, Art, Sport and SOSE (Inquiry/Humanities). They can wear the sports uniform on Wednesday and Fridays.

We look forward to a great Term 1 with a lot more great learning to come!
