Health and PE

Over the past two week in health we have continued to explore relationships and emotions. By understanding both our own emotions and others emotions we are able to support ourselves and our family and friends to have much stronger and connected relationships. We have done some role playing to develop awareness of what these emotions look like and feel like, and all students have enjoyed learning about these ideas.

In PE, all classes from grade 1-6 have been participating in a hockey unit, learning the skills and rules of hockey. They have learnt how to hold the stick correctly, pass, dribble, shoot and play minor games. All students have enjoyed learning a new sport and many of the skills learnt can be applied to many other sports.

The final lesson of this unit was provided by members of the local hockey club who were promoting a come and try event next week. See the flyer for more details.

Interschool Sports

Our grade 5/6 students with some help from five of our grade 4 girls have played their first two rounds of interschool sports.

Round 1 was against Stella Maris. The boys had a great game and all worked together and supported each other very well and had a strong win 21-13. There was some great batting and fielding that led to this great start.

Our girls were fantastic, with Stella Maris fielding all grade 6 girls, they had a narrow loss 14-12, however the great thing about this was that all of our girls got home and scored a run. Tara Tilly and Alana both scored a home run with Alana scoring a grand slam.

Round 2 was played against Cheltenham East. The girls again tried extremely hard with Tara Tilly hitting another home run. It was a narrow loss again 12-10, but they are all working so well together it is fantastic to watch.

The boys had another strong win, winning 19-9. Again some great hitting with Christian, Charlie, James, Mitchell, Aydan all scoring a home run and all players were able to get home to score for the team.

Well done to all of our students for playing well and showing great team work and sportsmanship.

School Swimming Program

Notices have been sent out for our school swimming program to Waves Leisure Centre for weeks 1 and 2 of term 2. Please complete these forms with payment to your classroom teacher as soon as possible so that I can organise our students. The return date for all permission forms and money is by Friday 18th March. If forms are not returned by this date, your child will not be able to participate.

We have also had a number of parents asking if they are able to assist. Support is generally only needed in the prep classes as our staff will manage all the other classes. The Prep classes are the last class of the day, finishing at 1.45pm, allowing parents to help dress their children.

Notices will come out from your child’s teacher soon if you wish to assist. You will need a working with children’s card to be provided to the office before you can assist.

Thanks,

Jarrod Bradley

PE/Health/Sports Coordinator
