After a break for over a year the QAMT 7/8 maths competition is back for 2022. St Augustine's was chosen to host Round 1 where a healthy turnout of well over 10 schools competed in the Cairns region. We had two teams and one qualified for Round 2, we missed a second qualification by one point.
In Round 2 the top teams from the FNQ region did battle for only one spot to the next round. Our team were victorious winning by a single point. Saints will now compete against the top teams from Queensland later this year.
A fantastic achievement and well done to the students: James Panevin (Year 7) Daniel Yanez Marichal (Year 8) and Kyle Hiranuma (Year 8).

It was hot and hard, but the boys rode well with the amazing views and the road closed for the event early this month. The boys also chose this event instead of a third Cardiac Challenge Cairns to Cooktown ride. It was wonderful to see Luke Azzopardi’s mum, Sue, riding in her Ride for Luke jersey. Luke mentored my son Tom Barber over the years, and I am always thankful for Luke's influence over and leadership with him.
The photos below feature Thomas Barber, Sean Weisgerber and Tom Greatorex. Also in their newly minted HRMS sponsored team and kit, is Logan Lockyer.
Ruben Trevino, in Year 7, and his mum were also seen riding the 48 kilometres from Palm Cove to Port Douglas, his first long ride. He made it look easy!
Former student Miguel Groth was one of the event's ambassadors, along with his brother Ricky Groth who rode in this event.
