Positive People @ Jamo

Welcome back for 2022 from the
Wellbeing team
We hope you all had a wonderful summer break and were able to enjoy some nice weather and quality time with your families. Unfortunately we farewelled Geraldine over the break and would like to sincerely thank her for all her hard work in 2021!
Our focus for 2022, as in our school mission, is to ensure all students at Jamo are flourishing.
The meaning of the word flourishing can be confusing, so it is very important for you as parents to understand what it really means for a child to flourish at school. It is not how much your child is liked by their teachers and it is most definitely not about academic achievement or a child with any extraordinary abilities.
If your child is showing the following characteristics, then that means they are flourishing at school:
• They are happy and joyful
• Curious and eager to learn without feeling stressed
• Connected with their peers and empathetic
• Creative and imaginative
• Confident
• Good team players
• Resilient and positive
• Love themselves
These characteristics will ensure your child will flourish not only in school, but in life.
How can we work together as parents and a school to ensure your child flourishes?
Take care of their emotional health- value and validate their feelings, and make them feel safe and secure.
Focus on their strengths- while acknowledging weaknesses. Failure is not to be feared, turn challenges into opportunities to grow and learn by having a growth mindset.
Develop their relationship skills- students with strong positive connections to their families, school staff and peers will have greater confidence and self-esteem.
Talk to your child’s teacher- open communication about your child’s unique needs and abilities will only help your child to flourish!
We are looking forward to the year ahead and helping support your children to flourish, please don’t hesitate to contact the school- School Welfare Officer and counsellor Jess is available Thursdays and Fridays during Term 1.
