Principal's message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the new school year and our first newsletter. We were hoping to have our Year Level Information Nights face to face this year, but we feel that it's wise to be cautious in our approach to whole school events. Therefore, Year Level Teams will send out information via Compass rather than meeting in person. Most families have had the chance to meet their child’s teacher and will have another opportunity at the end of Term 1 Parent Teacher Interviews. Parents are also able to organise meetings with your child’s teacher throughout the course of the term.

I want to welcome all parents and carers and in particular, all our new parents to Jamo. We look forward to connecting with you through the social and learning journeys that we all undertake as your child enrols with us.

I'm really excited about the year ahead and look forward to sharing critical information about our vision and what we explicitly do, especially in the following areas:

- Our approach to teaching at Jamo is explicit direct instruction

- How we explicitly teach Reading at Jamo

- How we explicitly teach Writing at Jamo

- How we explicitly teach Numeracy at Jamo

Well-being and how we live our values is of crucial importance to us.

Our four key priority areas are:

  1. Student Well-being
  2. Reading
  3. Writing
  4. Numeracy

Our well-being team is currently strengthening and simplifying the structure of well-being at Jamo, which I am hugely excited about as it is the cornerstone of learning and everything we do.

The partnership between school and home is crucial and for us to be successful, we need to work as a team, especially in the following areas:

 - Attendance; it's vital that our students are at school

- Uniform; we aim to engender pride in the school and students so please ensure your child is in full school uniform

- On-time; when students are late, it can lead to anxiety as they enter classrooms when sessions are underway

- Acceptable behaviours and language. What adults’ model is vital

- Homework, please take an interest in and talk to your child about their homework. Your parental interest and expectations have profound implications for your children

- Reading, please read to and listen to your child read as much as you can

- Numeracy; developing number facts early is essential

Please feel free to make a time to chat with either Danielle or myself. We are also at the gates most mornings and evenings. Feedback is something that we seek as we strive to continually get better at everything we do.

Thank for you’re a terrific start to the year.
