2022 started with a blast by the JMSS Music Department. With some of our highest student numbers ever, every instrument and ensemble is booming! Late in Term One saw the Music Department hold a set of soirée evenings, starting with a Piano soirée, and continuing with the VCE Soloist and Stage Band soirée. The String performance evening, "Viva Vivaldi" has been temporarily postponed until Term Two.

The Music Department has plenty of other exciting performance opportunities and activities coming up. Keep an eye out for Music Camp (12-14 May) which is open on Compass now. Any student from the entire school cohort is welcome to attend. Music Camp is held every year at Don Bosco campground, and is a highly enjoyed event in the JMSS Music Calendar. Spaces are limited!

Term Two will also see the return of one of our larger music nights, the Autumn Concert. This event is currently scheduled for May the 26th, and will see a number of our large ensembles playing, as well as some focused smaller groups and acts. There is a special combined work currently being prepared, and I can't say too much except that it involves Dragons. Parent and community attendance is welcome at our performance evenings. Please keep an eye open for future JMSS Music Events this year.

Jane Hadjion - Guest Speaker

On the 25th of March, the Year 11 Economics Class got the opportunity to have Jane Hadjion come in and talk to us. Jane is a corporate ecologist and also worked as aerospace engineer on the manufacturing of Boeing 787. She discussed how environmental issues are changing businesses and their goals, linking into our current unit on behavioural economics.

However, many of us were also interested in her engineering career and any advice she had for us to be successful in the field. Jane helped us understand how we can tell if businesses are actually making a change to their environmental impact as well as the powers consumers have to change business's behaviours on issues.

She also helped us answer some questions regarding her time working as an aerospace engineer and how we can use her career to specifically help people while also sparking our interest in aerospace and engineering.  We were all grateful to have the opportunity to hear Jane’s story and any advice that she had for us.
