Please take some time to read through the JMSS Career News as there is something for everyone in this edition. Year 10 students should be busy looking and applying for work experience placements. Though it is not compulsory this year we highly recommend students participate in a work experience placement. Work experience can help give you an edge over other students who haven't participated in when applying for work, scholarships and University. Some benefits of Work Experience are:

  • Assists students in their transition from school to work
  • Provides students with an opportunity to relate school studies with a workplace
  • Gives students a chance to see if they will like a particular industry

  • Prepares students for the demands and expectations of the working world

  • Helps students make informed career decisions by assessing their aptitudes and interests, and exploring potential careers

  • Improves students’ maturity, confidence and self reliance

  • Provides a link between school and local community

  • Provides students with appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes concerning both paid and unpaid work

Currently we have the following Work Experience placements available for students:

  • Monash School of Biomedical Science
  • Monash School of Physics & Astronomy
  • Monash School of Mathematics
  • Monash School of Biological Sciences

Students have been emailed details and instructions on how to apply for these placements. Please note applications for CSIRO have now closed.

Students should also keep checking Compass Newsfeed as the Careers Team often advertise eternal work experience placements there. Students need to follow the directions in the Newsfeed posts on how to apply.

If you have any questions please feel free to email Ms Carter,  kirstine.carter@jmss.vic.edu.au.  You can also come and see the Careers Team (Ms Carter & Ms Veldsman) anytime on the ground floor near the stairs under Flannery House.
