Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

ENROLMENTS FOR 2020 NOW OPEN. PLEASE COLLECT AN ENROLMENT FORM FROM THE OFFICE. OPEN DAY 13 MARCH. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD

I wish to take this opportunity to say how grateful I am to classroom teachers who gave up their time to meet with parents on Monday evening. We believe this meeting is a valuable exercise in developing a positive partnership and gaining knowledge about children’s needs. We are a Visible Learning school, which aims to broaden skills and knowledge of children’s strengths and challenges. By your involvement at meetings such as this, we will be able to collect information that we can use to explicitly teach to children's needs.

On Monday 25 February between 9.15am to 10.15am, we will hold a workshop for classroom helpers. Can I encourage you to attend. As I have said many times, research clearly demonstrates that children achieve better results if parents are active participants in their learning. That is why I encourage all parents to be involved as much as they can in the classroom. We value parent participation and look forward to welcoming you into classrooms.

Children looked amazing on Photo day and I thank you for your cooperation in making sure children were in full school uniform.  Prep children are now full time.

I was thrilled to see so many parents attend the Parents & Friends meeting. It is shaping up to be a great year with heaps of fun activities for children. thank you everyone.

STAFFING CHANGES

No one likes staff changes, especially me! However, people do move on to further their career.

Congratulations to Emilie Owen who will be leaving us at the end of March to take up a Literacy Leader position at another school. We thank Emilie for her contribution and for the fantastic work she has done in Prep over the years. Emilie will be replaced by Amanda Caiafa in Prep. Many of you know Amanda and she will move into Prep from the 26 February. Amanda will be replaced by Sally Erickson who is already in the Senior school. Thank you Sally for your flexibility.

We welcome Lizzie Sahlstrom to St. Mary's. Lizzie is our new Performing Arts teacher. Lizzie has a strong Music background and for the past year has been teaching in London. My thanks to Madi who has been filling in for the past 3 weeks.

Jane Grapsas will be moving out of the Library and taking on the role of Literacy Leader. Jane is a very experienced teacher and we look forward to Jane taking on a new challenge. Congratulations Jane. We welcome Claire Jenkinson who takes on the role of Librarian. Claire has been a teacher at St. John's Heidelberg and will be a great addition to our team.

It's now time to start thinking about the Fete. Each family would have received a pack from the Parents and Friends, it would be wonderful if every family thought about how they can assist.

REMINDER: THERE IS NO SCHOOL NEXT THURSDAY & FRIDAY. OSCH CLUB WILL BE OPEN BOTH DAYS. SEE EMILY FOR MORE INFORMATION OR BOOK ONLINE.

Have a great weekend, regards

Dino
