Ministry Message

Connecting the ministry of the Word with the world of our students

Apostle Paul famously said “Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law, so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law, so as to win those not having the law... I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some”.  1Corinthians 9:19-23.

Apostle Paul lived with conviction that the Good News of Jesus can only bear fruit if it is preached with relevance. The world in which Paul lived was diverse and divided. It was divided by the languages and the worldviews of different ethnic groups. The worldview of the Greeks was largely governed by the philosophers of its time. The Jews' worldview was governed by the Old Testament Laws and the Romans lived in their own bubble of military superiority and devotion to their Emperor.

Apostle Paul did not ignore these cultural worldviews, but he embraced the task of becoming a diligent student of these cultural narratives. He had become “all things to all people”.  He was a student of the Greek philosophy, he was an expert in the Old Testament Laws, and he fully understood the privileges given to him by his Roman Citizenship. At the heart of all his efforts was to understand the world of his people, was to preach the Good News of Jesus with relevance, and conviction that Jesus has the ultimate answers to the darkest problems of society.

The example of Apostle Paul cannot distract our attention as we strive to minister to our students at Endeavor College. Our world is changing more quickly than ever before. Generational worldviews no longer differ just between the old and the young, but even between the year levels of our students.   In the time of internet and electronics, it only gets harder to communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ to our youth, in the way that is relevant to them. Therefore, as a Ministry Team we do not lose heart, but following the example of Paul, we strive to become “all things to all people”.  We do not ignore the world of our students, but we continue to listen and learn about their needs, hopes, struggles and challenges.  We live by conviction, that in order to continue to make an impact on their lives, we need to stay relevant and connected to their world.
