INTERSCHOOL SPORT

Congratulations to the following students who recently ran at the Western Regional Cross-Country Finals at Brimbank Park & finished in the overall top 20: Jade Lewicki (19th Year 7 Girls), Tural Yamazaki-Edwards (16th Year 8 Girls), Otto Crawford (14th Year 8 Boys), Roni Thomas (14th Year 9 Boys), Max Taylor (12th Senior Boys), Jackson Glover (2nd Year 10 Boys) & Tom Glover (1st Year 8 Boys). The Year 8 Boys team of Tom, Otto, Declan Duffy, Seb Albert, Jim Findlay and Lachie Sargent also finished 3rd overall in the Year 8 teams’ event. Tom and Jackson Glover have now qualified for the State Championships in Bundoora early next term. There were nearly 20 other FCC students who qualified for the Regional finals and many ran their PB’s on the day. These were all fantastic efforts as there were nearly 100 runners in each age group from all over the west.

Also, congratulations to the following winter sports teams who have enjoyed success at our recent regional competitions and will now compete at the next level either late in Term 2 or early next term: SENIOR BOYS BADMINTON, YEAR 7 GIRLS SOCCER, YEAR 8 GIRLS NETBALL, YEAR 7 BOYS BADMINTON and YEAR 8 GIRLS BADMINTON. Good luck to all involved.

I would also like to acknowledge the great assistance I get from a number of our teaching staff who regularly put their hands up to train and coach our students outside of their regular teaching hours.  Thanks also to the parents and carers who come along to support their children and offer to help in many ways. One such example was the Friends of Footscray parents group who generously awarded $1500 towards the purchase of new equipment for our school weights room. Many thanks to the whole Footscray City College community for their support of our school sport program.
