Jay Curtis in Oedipus Rex

OEDIPUS REX

Year 11 Theatre Studies students performed the ancient Greek classic “Oedipus Rex” by Sophocles last month in a sold out evening show. Beautiful performances by Luey Kemp-Mykyta, Angie Haussegger and Jay Curtis as Oedipus, Jocasta and Creon were supported by an energised and synchronised cast of chorus members and Theban citizens. The stagecraft for the performance was designed by the students and the lighting and staging managed expertly by a dedicated team headed by Max Taylor. I am unafraid to lavish praise on these fantastic young people, who despite having little idea (initially) about the heavy, old, Greek plays, bring such freshness and poignancy to their work through their dedication and hours of rehearsal. I also had a great time observing the steep learning curve everyone experienced as they approached their live performance. Well done on a remarkable show. Special mention to Halyna Mykyta for her stunning photos and footage of the show, we are so grateful to her for the time and expertise she donated to the college. Thankyou Halyna.

MELBOURNE THEATRE COMPANY AMBASSADORS PROGRAM

Congratulations to Angie Haussegger who was nominated and accepted into the MTC Ambassadors program. She will join 15 other year 11 students to meet and attend plays at the MTC headquarters in Southbank and discuss theatre once a month. This presents a great opportunity for Angie who is a passionate theatre lover and performer, and an equally beneficial situation for the College as we send out one of our own who we can trust will do our College proud. You thoroughly deserve your place in the program Angie, we look forward to an article from you during the year where you can tell us all about the experience.
