LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library

The end of term is fast approaching and across the primary, we are busy completing activities and recreating book covers for students’ favourite books. I’ve included some more amazing covers created by 1/2DM, they’ve done a fantastic job!

New Books & Graphic Novels

Schools throughout the Armidale Diocese are lucky to receive regular new books from Australian Standing Orders who select the best of new Australian books for all stages of learning. Each term we get to enjoy a great range of these books and this month is no exception.

We have also subscribed this year to a selection of junior and senior graphic novels which are proving to be a popular addition to the library. Series such as ‘Weirdo’ (Anh Do), ‘The Bad Guys’ (Aaron Blabey) and the Treehouse books (Terry Denton & Andy Griffiths) were students first introduction to this genre and are still as popular as ever, but any new books don’t stay on the shelves for long. Here are just some of the new books available for our students.

George the Farmer Books

We have also recently bought the ‘George the Farmer’ books, an award-winning series that educates children about farming life while also teaching children how products are produced. Established in regional South Australia, George the Farmer donates profits from the sale of each book into creating and providing agricultural resources for schools. There are six picture books available on wheat, sheep, shearing, dairies, bees and counting, so if you have any farm obsessed children (or are just keen for your children to learn where our produce comes from), these are the books for you! If you’re interested in learning more about this series, visit the book’s website

Angel or Mischief?

Meleah was the first borrower of ‘The Book With No Pictures’ which comes with a warning for parents that silliness may be involved. I can’t give anything away but look at the mischief written all over her face, she couldn’t wait to get home so her mum could read it!

In light of last Friday being Roald Dahl Day, I am finishing this week's newsletter with one of Dahl's most famous quotes, I hope you have a great week.

Happy reading,

Mrs Toni Fraser
